Unassigned students
Add enough desks and shuffle, or select a student below and then an empty seat.
Every desk keeps its row and seat number. Teacher view flips the room, with the front at the bottom.
FROM CLASS LIST TO CLASSROOM
A clearer start to your next lesson.
Build a seating chart around the students and room you already have. Keep up to 10 classes in this browser, with up to 60 students per class and a grid of up to 12 rows and 12 seats per row.
How it works
- Add your roster. Paste one name per line or spreadsheet cells. Check the preview, give duplicate names a distinguishing initial, and apply the roster.
- Set up the room. Choose rows, seats per row and single or paired desks. Add seating rules before you shuffle.
- Review and keep your plan. Swap students by clicking two seats, check warnings, then export. Undo and redo cover the last 50 changes on this page.
Seating rules
Keep apart prevents two students from occupying neighboring grid positions. Neighbors include all eight directions: in front, behind, beside and diagonally adjacent, even across a desk aisle.
Front rows keeps selected students within the first one, two or three rows. Lock seat keeps a student in place when shuffling; unlock before moving them manually.
Seats fill from the front when possible, with rules and locks taking priority. Shrinking the room keeps every student and lists anyone without a desk as unassigned.
Privacy in the classroom
Rosters are processed locally and saved only in this browser. They are not sent to a server or placed in the page address. Follow your school's requirements; use first names and surname initials when appropriate. Downloaded files contain names too, so share them only with people who need them.
Teacher view reverses the room while keeping names readable. The front appears at the bottom, and printed charts follow the selected view.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes. The classroom planner and its PDF, PNG and CSV exports are free in this early preview. No account or payment details are required.
Can I import from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Copy and paste cells into the roster box, or export a CSV UTF-8 file and choose Import CSV. Review the names, then select Apply roster. XLSX files are not imported directly.
Where are student names stored?
Applied rosters and seating plans are saved in this browser's local storage. Names are not uploaded. They do not sync between devices, and clearing browser data removes saved classes.
Can I print my classroom seating chart?
Yes. Choose Export to print or save a single-page landscape PDF on A4 or US Letter. PNG and CSV downloads are also available. Review any unassigned students or rule warnings before sharing.
What if a shuffle cannot meet my rules?
Your current plan stays unchanged. Check the explanation, then unlock a seat, remove a rule or add space. The search is limited, so a failed attempt does not prove every possible arrangement is impossible.
